History
The breed was founded by a Californian woman, Ann Baker, in the 60's. It originated from matings between various breeds to gather all the best traits in one cat. This hybrid was called a "rag doll" meaning, "a soft doll made from cloth", because these cats do not strain their muscles and do not get stiff when raised, but simply hang listlessly. It was only after ten years that the cats arrived in Europe. Ragdolls are one of the biggest pedigree cats, which love children and never become fussy. They are always eager to play, even though they might be a bit shy. They also learn easily and attach strongly to their owners. All these traits constitute their true individuality. Ragdolls appear in three-color combinations - bicolor in "gloves" and colorpoint.
The information on the breed was taken from Uschi Birr's book "Beautiful Cats".
This is the first cat with a trademarked name "RAGDOLL". His cradle is the United States; they arrived to Europe in the 70's, whereas to Poland in 2001 when Z.Jankowska from the IVX Department in Warsaw brought a pair. The Ragdoll cat is docile, non-aggressive, almost phlegmatic. What we admire is his tendency to go limp in one's arms, which, however, has also the influence on his jumping abilities. He can be called the floor-level cat as he doesn't enjoy climbing. The cat can debate for a long time whether to jump on the windowsill or not. If he has the chance to use an easier way, for e.g. a chair, he won't hesitate. Ragdolls love to be with humans, but they won't constantly pester you for attention. They will stay close by and wait for you to emerge. Their quiet "meow" is very similar to the baby's whimpering and the look of their blue eyes lends them a graceful vulnerability. This is the ideal cat for calm and solitary people. However, Ragdolls can also be your children's buddies unless they get "stroked to death". In general, this teddy bear-looking cat is simply an ideal pet.
